TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTAMental health has become a crucial issue worldwide, especially with rising pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis. According to WHO data, one in six adults experiences mental health issues each year.

This challenge not only affects individuals emotionally but also has a significant economic impact. WHO estimates that depression and anxiety cost the global economy $1 trillion annually, and this figure could increase due to growing global uncertainties.

Despite growing awareness, stigma and discrimination still prevent many people from seeking help. There is still a perception that those struggling with mental health are weak or incapable of coping with life.

As a result, issues such as bullying, harassment, toxic environments, racism, and stress are often overlooked, even though they play a major role in deteriorating mental well-being.

How to Overcome Mental Problems

The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the importance of creating supportive environments to address mental health issues effectively.

One of the key strategies is the early identification and intervention for mental health challenges, whether they occur in the workplace or the community. This proactive approach can prevent the escalation of problems and lead to better mental health outcomes.

Another crucial step is training managers and organizational leaders to recognize the signs of workplace stress and other mental health issues.

By equipping leaders with the tools to take appropriate actions, organizations can create safer and more supportive environments for their employees, reducing the stigma around mental health and promoting well-being.

Lastly, WHO advocates for the development of environments where individuals can grow mentally and emotionally. This includes fostering inclusive spaces that encourage open discussions about mental health and providing resources that support emotional growth and resilience.

These steps are essential to ensuring that mental health becomes a priority across various sectors of society.

The Importance of Seeking Support

WHO highlights that sharing struggles or seeking professional help from psychologists is not a sign of weakness. Taking a break and talking with someone you trust can be a positive step toward maintaining mental well-being.

Mental health should not be neglected it is just as important as physical health. Creating a culture of openness and mutual support is key to breaking the stigma and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live with good mental health.
