Nusuk Card: The New Essential for Hajj 2025 Pilgrims

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has introduced a crucial innovation in the management service of Hajj 2025, the Nusuk Card. This card now serves as the official identity and a vital access key for every Indonesian pilgrim throughout all phases of the Hajj pilgrimage.
In a detailed statement quoted from the official Hajj site (haji.kemenag.go.id) on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Hilman Latief, the Director General of Hajj and Umrah Implementation (Dirjen PHU), outlined the three primary functions of the Nusuk card.

1. Integrated Service System via Syarikah
The first function of the Nusuk card is to act as a gateway to services provided by syarikah, the private corporations officially assigned to manage Hajj pilgrim services in Saudi Arabia. These companies are tasked with organizing accommodation, transportation, and logistical support for Indonesian pilgrims.
Upon arrival in Madinah, pilgrims are assigned to hotels managed by a specific syarikah. Before continuing their journey to Makkah, it is mandatory for every pilgrim to possess a Nusuk card. "Without this card, they cannot proceed," Hilman emphasized.
The card is fully integrated with the syarikah’s system, allowing for seamless verification and service access. Hajj officers are also responsible for ensuring that no pilgrim is left behind due to the absence of this essential identification.
“Nusuk is tailored to each syarikah. Insyaalloh, this will eliminate cases of pilgrims being neglected due to service ambiguities," Hilman said.
2. Entry Permit into the Holy City of Makkah
The second major function of the Nusuk card is its role as an entry pass to the Holy City of Makkah, particularly the sacred areas known as Tanah Haram.
"To even enter Makkah, a special permit is required, let alone the Haram area," Hilman explained. By unifying the access process under a single syarikah and validating entry through the Nusuk system, authorities hope to enhance order and safety for all pilgrims.
This system ensures that only authorized pilgrims are granted access to the holy sites, reducing congestion and improving the overall experience.
3. Key Identifier During the Peak of Hajj
The third and perhaps most vital function of the Nusuk card will be fully realized during the peak days of the Hajj ritual, especially the massive movements from Makkah to Arafah, then to Muzdalifah, and finally to Mina.
During this critical phase, the Nusuk card will serve as the main data reference for coordinating the movement of over two million pilgrims. It will help ensure that pilgrims are correctly grouped and transported according to their schedule and assigned syarikah, reducing the risk of disorganization and potential safety issues.
The Nusuk card represents a significant transformation in how Indonesian pilgrims will experience and perform the Hajj in 2025. With its integration into a centralized service model, strict entry regulation, and peak ritual coordination, it becomes more than just an ID—it is a key to a safer, smoother, and more structured Hajj journey.
As preparations for Hajj 2025 continue, the Ministry of Religious Affairs urges all pilgrims and officers to familiarize themselves with the Nusuk system and ensure complete compliance for a successful pilgrimage. (*)
