This experimental study involved 22 night owls, who usually sleep at 2.30 a.m. and wake up at 10.15 a.m.

“Staying up late could lead to various problems, such as drowsiness during the day and poor performance. We want to see whether there are some simple methods to overcome this problem,” said Andrew Bagshaw, a researcher from University of Birmingham, cited from The Independent.

In three weeks, the participants were required to sleep 2-3 hours sooner on workdays and holidays. They also need to get enough sunrays, have breakfast in the morning, have lunch regularly, and have dinner before 7 p.m.

This regular habits eventually could help go to sleep earlier.

Bagshaw explained that there is a significant change on the participants physically and mentally. There is an increase in the cognitive performance at the morning.

“The most interesting thing is that they feel much better and less drowsy during the day. This is a positive result for the participants,” said Bagshaw.
