16 Students of Mathematics Education UMBY Shines at International Conference Türkiye

TIMESINDONESIA, YOGYAKARTA – Sixteen students from the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY) proudly showcased their academic work at the prestigious International Mediterranean Scientific Research Congress, an international conference held in Türkiye.

This monthly conference serves as a platform for researchers from around the world to share findings and foster cross-border academic collaboration.

On Saturday (14/6/2025) the 16 UMBY students participated as presenters in an online session that began at 1:30 PM Türkiye time. Their presentations took place in Hall 14, Session 1, moderated by Chouitah O from Université de Mascara, Algeria.

The students presented literature reviews they had compiled as part of their final project for the Research Methods course, under the guidance of the Head of the Mathematics Education Program, Nafida Hetty Marhaeni, M.Pd.

The students are Salmadhiya Ananda, Yohanes Don Bosko, Paldi, Eva Astuti, Esta Fania Hariani, Margaret Vinsensia Chelly Weroh, Djiana Nurpratiwi, Thoyibah, Riska Natasi Br Ginting, Istiana, Anisa Rofiah, Serli Zuniawati, Sabrina Aulia Terina, Alfi Fatmawati, Desima Nur Safitri, and Aswiyanti Putri Murbani.

According to Nafida, this international experience plays a vital role in sharpening students’ public speaking skills in English and boosting their confidence in the global academic arena. She added that the course aims to produce concrete outputs in the form of thesis proposals and complete research instruments.

"Studying in the Mathematics Education Program is not just about calculations," Nafida explained, "but also about equipping oneself with essential 21st-century skills, including international scientific communication and the effective use of technology."

More than 100 presenters from various universities enlivened the congress, including representatives from renowned institutions such as Hatay Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi, Gaziantep Üniversitesi, Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi, Mersin Üniversitesi, Sinop Üniversitesi, and Sakarya Uygulamalı Bilimler Üniversitesi. The diversity of backgrounds made the conference a vibrant and insightful venue for knowledge exchange.

One of the student, Yohanes Don Bosko, expressed his excitement about the opportunity.

"This was my first time presenting at an international forum. It was a memorable experience that broadened my understanding of the importance of cross-national academic communication," he said.

Through this participation, UMBY continues to affirm its commitment to producing outstanding graduates who are prepared to face global challenges and actively engage in the international scholarly community. (*)
